Mazda Demio was presented for the first time in the year 1996 in Japan. Later on the model was shown in Europe. It is a middle-class mini-car which was given the title The car of the year in 2008. Nowadays the world enjoys the third generation of the minimalist exterior vehicle. But the company decided to change the name of the model, stressing the fact that it changed over the years to present a new brand – Mazda 2.
Originally, Demio was equipped with 1.5-liter engine, performing 99 horsepower. But the models, which were to be exported, had some other engine type: those versions had 1.3-liter engine, producing 72 horsepower. One could also choose between models, coupled to five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission.
The first models were designed on the hatchback platform, together with an extended body. There were several versions in the first generation of Mazda Demio. They differed in the number of amenities and some options attached to them. The standard specification included airbag, ABS, air-conditioning system. Other version, for example, LX one, was additionally equipped with the front spoiler and rear windshield. Also, more luxurious versions had a better scale of colors of the body.
The year 2000 had witnessed significant changes of the model. There appeared renewed headlights, new grille and bumpers. The suspension characteristics were also redesigned to make the car more comfortable to handle. The interior was left unchanged, except for the nes colors of the instrument panel.
Next years the new generations of Mazda Demio reappeared with some crucial changes. The body acquired the following dimensions: 3925 mm length, 1680 mm width, and 1530 mm height. The exterior became more of Mazda style. Inside the car there prevails beige color of the seats with wood materials of the panel and in some other versions the interior has dark colors.
The latest versions of the vehicle have many variants of the exterior. The difference lies not only in the construction of bumpers and wheels but also in the type of grille and colors of the trunk. Under the hood there is still 1.3- or 1.5-liter engine with the difference in the type of the gearbox. The revised transmission and engine’s performance have lowered down the consumption of the fuel. This quality is rather essential for the city life with a large amount of traffic.
The car tackles everyday needs of urban life. The company tried to suit every prospective buyer. Thus, there are such versions of the car as Sport and Casual.
