The GMC Savana is the full-sized microbus.
The American Company – General Motors, presented it for the first time in 1965. The microbus was also known as Rally. It was the typical representative of the American vans. The time of the beginning of its manufacture concurred with the extreme popularity of similar microbuses. The model was quite successful, so there were no particular changes until 1996.
The car had the impressive size. The massive front end, big lights, and low bumpers – everything distinguished the American style. The microbus was offered in two versions: the GMC Savana 1500 (the volume of luggage trunk was 500 kg) and the GMC Savana 3500 (the volume of luggage trunk was 1000 kg). Depending on the package, the car could accommodate 8-15 people.
Under the hood of the GMC Savana 1500 there was 5.3 L V8, with the capacity of 295 hp. The GMC Savana 3500 was equipped with the 6.0 L power unit with the capacity of 300 hp. Both engines worked in pair with 4-speed automatic transmission. The most part of the Savana microbuses was RWD, thou the Savana 1500 modification was also offered in AWD variant. Among the technical features which were installed as standard, it could be distinguished the steering booster and the stability control system.
The first weighty update was in 1996, when the name of the microbus was changed from the GMC Rally to the GMC Savana. The car had got the renewed front end and the new power unit V6, with the volume of 4.3 L. The capacity was 195 hp.
In 2003, the GMC Savana was also reworked both inside and outside. The new modification GMC Savana 2500 (with the bearing capacity of 750 kg) appeared at the same time. The car was based on the new GMT800 platform.
Since 2004 the passenger’s models of the GMC Savana had been equipped with the StabiliTrak (electronical stability system).
In 2007 as standard, all packages of the GMC Savana were equipped with 5.3 L V8, with the capacity of 295 hp.
The model is produced now. The engine list includes: 195 hp 4.3 L V6, 285 hp 4.8 L V8, 300 hp 6.0 V8 gasoline engines and 250 hp 6.6 L V8 diesel one.
