Audi S6 is a series of high performance version of A6 model line that first appeared in 1994.
This executive car is featured with Audi’s trademark permanent Torsen-based 4WD system.
The first generation of Audi S6, also called Ur-S6, appeared in 1994 as a sport version of A6 model line and was produced until 1997. The engine on this one was presented by the 2.2 liter turbo I5 20v and the 4.2 liter DOHC V8 32v. Transmission options included five- or six-speed manual and four-speed automatic ones. The S6 as well as the A6 model was built on the Volkswagen Group C4 platform. The I5 engine gave 227 hp (169 kW) of power and allowed the
Audi S6 to gain the maximum speed of 235 km/hour. The acceleration to 100 km/hour took less than 6.7 seconds. The V8 one had 286 hp (2133 kW) of power with slightly different speed characteristics.
Second generation of S6 cars appeared in 1999 and was renamed to Audi S6 quattro. This line’s production went out in 2003 when it was replaced by new series. The Audi S6 quattro was available in two body styles: the four-door sedan and the five-door Avant wagon. The only version available in North American market was the Avant one.
The engine option included a 4.2 liter 40-valve DOHC V8 that gave the car 335 hp (250 kW) of power supplemented with the six-speed manual transmission. The exterior design of this generation resembled the Audi A6 series as it was based on it from the beginning. The main difference in the look of the second generation of Audi S6 was in the door sills, wheel arches, front wings, rear tailgate spoiler and unique front grille. Interior features remained almost the same and represented every possible comfort and safety system available at that time.
The third series of Audi S6 appeared in 2006 and was produced until 2011. It featured a 5.2 liter DOHC V10 FSI 40v engine with six-speed tiptronic automatic transmission and was really successful in the market.
In 2012 the newest version of Audi S6 quattro was presented and is expected to become available for buyers around the world in 2013.
