Mahindra Scorpio is a unique SUV produced by the Indian Mahindra Group Company, the biggest auto manufacturing company in India. You can buy this car internationally, but there must be an official dealer’s shop in your area for you to do this. This car will shortly be available in North American market but already got some really good reviews from around the world. The BBC world even gave the Mahindra Scorpio the “Best Car of the Year” award in 2012. So what should you expect from this unusual and mysterious SUV?
First of all, the production of this car started in 2002 and there have been two generations made with the third one coming in 2013. This means that this SUV had a pretty successful history otherwise it wouldn’t live this long.
The first generation of Scorpios was launched in India in 2002. It was available as a four-door SUV, the only body style available then as it is today. The engine packages were presented by the 2.1 liter petrol I4 with 116 hp capacity, the 2.6 liter turbo diesel I4 with 115 hp capacity and the 2.2 liter turbo diesel M-Hawk with 120 hp capacity. The engines were supplemented with the five-speed manual and six-speed automatic transmissions as basic equipment and a four-wheel drive as an option.
The second generation appeared in 2006 and received some insignificant upgrades, such as plush seats and additional color schemes. In 2007 a pick-up version of the original Mahindra Scorpio was launched and was named the Scorpio Getaway.
The safety features of this car include the usual package of airbags and ABS system. The features installed in the salon also are pretty common for the car this type: it has an air-conditioning system, a climate-control system, a cruise control system, an audio system of the latest generation with every connectivity feature you could ask for, some really comfortable seats and pretty spacious salon. What is different from the other SUV’s that are available today is the unique design of the car that has never been seen before. And this is a great motivation for buying the Mahindra Scorpio.
