New Volkswagen Phaeton will be shown for the first time in Detroit in January of next year. The restyling of modern version of the four-door Volkswagen Phaeton took place in 2010, but the model itself was released for the first time back in 2002. Unfortunately, it did not meet the company’s expectations: its sales were less than half of the planned startup of the flagship, so its production had to be stopped. It then seemed we’ll never be able to see this vehicle ever again, but you know what they say, never say never.
Bloomberg Agency is citing some insider that claims a prototype of the second generation of Phaeton will be presented by Germans at the Detroit Auto Show.
Maybe Bloomberg is just checking the response of the public, especially the fans, but this is still very good news to hear. The model is expected to appear in dealer’s shops around the world by the end of 2015. And Volkswagen CEO, Martin Winterkorn, has also confirmed that the Phaeton model will finally come back to the U.S., from where it left in 2006 due to weak demand on the market. \"A brand as big as Volkswagen needs a serious project in such prestigious segment of the market”- said the head of the company. – “We\'ve all seen what happens with brands that do not have such a project, and our Company does not desire to feel it on its skin\".
Hardly anyone of foreigners has seen the branded sketches of \"second\" Phaeton, that’s why the artists all over the world are trying to capture it in their own way, basing their art on the current model. It is additionally known that next Phaeton model will set the tone for the rest of Volkswagen cars in the new generations.
Phaeton will also have the same chassis Audi A8 sedan hasб and that means that MLB platform will get some kind of future development. For those who don’t know it, the current Phaeton is built on a D1 platform, which is also shared with the Bentley Continental GT. Among other things, new platform means extensive use of aluminum and significantly less weight.
