BMW и Toyota Companies are studying the possibilities of creating a mutual sport car. Tetsuya Tada , the chief GT 86 project engineer, plans to build a concept, hinting at a future sports car, the successor to the Supra and present it at the Tokyo Motor Show, which will open in November 2013. (The illustration shows a longtime third-party sketch of Supra of XXI century.)
Last summer Toyota and BMW companies have agreed to work together on several fronts. The most intriguing among them was the creation of a new sports car. Since then, there was not much of a specific information, but in light of the upcoming revival of Toyota Supra model, we are interested to know what are the German partners able to offer to the Japanese.
Or vice versa, it doesn’t matter, as the collaboration supposes that both parties work together as one team.
Because there is no clarity whatsoever about the future of this sport model and its construction, we can’t be quite sure how will it be positioned in the BMW model line. Supposedly it will be placed a bit higher that Z4 roadster is now.
An interesting assumption has emerged in the Network a bit earlier: the collaborative BMW and Toyota sports car will be built with the modified Toyota GT 86/Subaru BRZ / Scion FR-S. chassis. In reality, however, nothing is confirmed nor denied. Engineers from BMW have recently told the reporters that they are preparing four, five or six different options of the future sports car for consideration. “We still have no decision in which direction to go”, - said one of BMW representatives, - “It can be a super car with engine placed in the front or a traditional sport car witр front engine placement, we are still not sure”. Insiders also state that despite some crossings in the platform, BMW and Toyota will produce two completely different and unique sport cars that will differ from each other more than the mentioned above trinity. To get the green light from BMW management, the vehicle should be really exceptional and sporty at the same time.
