The four-door coupe starts with three engine versions – initial 420d version is offered only in rear-wheel drive, but 428i and 435i ones can be selected from rear- as well as all-wheel xDrive.
The widest part of this coupe’s body is the zone of the rear wheel arches. According to the designers, it increases the rear-wheel drive association. But do not believe your eyes: the balance of control compartment is shifted to safe side of the vehicle. It also has shorter overhangs, lower roof, sport-like silhouette, created by the brand’s firm recipes. So why did a coupe, based on the third series sedan, has received a new index? Well, because neither of this cars have any common detail, said Domagoj Dukech, chief designer who worked on creating new looks for this coupe.
The headlamps have become narrower, the height was reduced by 54 mm and the overall length has increased by 14 mm.
But was the previous generation of the coupe any different? Good question, especially when the front and rear suspension is by 80% made of the original details of previous car. Ernst Meyer, responsible for setting up the chassis, said that the body became stiffer by 60%, the front track - wider by 20 mm, rear – by 30 mm, and the center of gravity has gone down by 10 mm. In addition, engineers have established a torsion stretch connecting the front suspension and body and were able to achieve ideal weight - 50/50. The difference in the front of the sedan is only seen in material finishes and their color palette. A pair of cup holders on the center console are hidden under a removable cover.
Before the eyes of the driver are the laconic tools of four round instruments and digital displays. And under the right arm a modal panel of key vehicle settings is installed, including mute button stabilization system and the circular review. Assistant system that improve active safety with are placed on a left switch of the main panel. Interior is more spacious than it was before, making room for more freedom of the passengers and driver.
