The Maserati Quattroporte is a 4 door luxury saloon made by the Italian designer. The Quatroporte literally means ‘4 doors’. The car has been through 6 generations of manufacturing since 1963. The latest sixth generation was revealed in January 2013 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The production of this car started in November 2012. The new model was designed in a special Maserati department in the Fiat Group within the Fiat Group Centro Stile design center.
In the pre-launch press briefing, it was stressed that all the aspects of the car have been freshly designed. The Quattroporte has the new V6 and V8 engines built by Ferrari.
The launch engine is to be a petrol 3.8 V8 producing 523 bhp, which is to be followed by a 3.0 V6. It is to be mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox which is ZF supplied along with a 4 wheel drive available on the V6 models in left-hand drive markets only.
A limited edition Quattroporte designed along with Ermenegildo Zegna debuted at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. The car featured special effect platinum metallic paint along with aluminum pigmentation and a fresh inner fabric emulating the Zegna clothing line. No other additional changes were made to the car, except for the special effect paintwork. The V8 and V6 engines were also kept unchanged.
