Saturn Ion
Saturn Ion

The Saturn Ion was sold by General Motors from 2003 to 2007 and the Saturn marque from GM was a compact car. It was based on the GM Delta platform and it replaced the S-series from Saturn in 2003. The car itself was overtook by Saturn Astra in 2008. Production of the Saturn Ion was stopped in March 2007 and it became the longest selling compact passenger vehicle in North America. First, it surfaced in the New York International Auto Show 2002 as Saturn Ion Quad Coupe as a production car. The 2003 model was regularly given 2.2 liter 140 Horsepower with DOHC Ecotec I4 engine. Ion model had a top center mounted instrument panel on the dashboard in place of, at the rear the steering panel. Saturn Ion models were existing in coupe and sedan body types. Bi-parting doors were the feature of the couple and it was sold as the quad coupe.

For transmission either a Getrag F23 5 manual or Aisin AF33 5-speed auto were available. The 5-speed transmission was compact and did not have an overdrive which enabled the housing of 5 gears in a 4-speed manual gearbox. This hugely reduced friction eliminated heat while saving fuel and produced better acceleration. The Saturn Ion coupes from 2003 and 2004 were available with VTi CTV or a Getrag F23 5-speed manual gearbox.
