The Suzuki DL650 is known currently as the V-Strom and it is a middleweight bike launched as a dual purpose motorbike in 2004. The bike is distinctive with an aluminium chassis, regulation riding posture, fuel injection and is currently into 2nd generation of production. The bike was assembled at the ISO 14001 certified Toyokawa plant in Japan and is marketed in Europe, America and Oceania. The V in the name stands for the V engine configuration of the bike and the Strom is the German for Current or Stream.
The engine is a 645cc DOHC liquid cooled 4-stroke, 8-valve V-twin and produces 66bhp and 44.3 lb-ft torque. Designed with a 61.2-inches wheelbase the bike measures 90-inches in length and 33-inches in breadth. The bike stands at 55-inches and stores a fuel quantity of 5.8 US gallons. It weighs 220kg wet and consumes 54 mpg US. The bike is adaptable to all conditions and it can cope with cruising, commuting and touring and to a lesser extent cope with off-road riding. The bike has 6-speed transmission and uses a 2-in-1 exhaust system. The bikes handling characteristics are contributed by the standard upright riding posture. V-Strom’s instrument panel also includes a LCD unit for different gauges.
