Rover 214

The Rover 214 is a smaller car from the Rover 200 series which was codenamed R3 and manufactured between 1995 and 1999. The car was intended to replace the 15 year old Metro. The car was new although some of the old features such as the front fascia; heater, front suspension and steering were carried over from the previous 200/400.  It was tinier than the R8 cars based from Honda and the early body designs of the 200 series was provided by it. At the time of the car’s release Honda and Rover had parted ways following the BMW takeover.  The car was available in the body styles of 3-door and 5-door hatchback and was related to the Rover 400. Transmission was available in 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic and it had a wheelbase of 98.4-inches. Overall measurements read like 156.3 inches length, 66.5-inches width and 55.9-inches height. The 200 series utilized petrol engines from K-series and especially the 1.8 L VVC version of MGF and diesel engine of L-series. This engine was considered very competitive in the middle 90s and performance oriented and economical with fuel. Totally revamped interior design was imparted to the R3 along with the dash board so that the passenger airbag can be accommodated in compliance with the new safety norms.
