Honda VTEC

VTEC is a Honda developed system and it is expanded as Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control. This was designed to improve the output efficiency of the 4-stroke internal engine. The system utilizes 2 camshaft profiles which it selects via hydraulic. Ikuo Kajitani, an engineer in the employment of Honda invented this system and it is quite different from the standard Variable Valve Timing. In the VVT only the valve timing is advanced and valve lift or camshaft profile is not changed at all. With the VTEC system the engine gets multiple cam lobe profiles conducive for RPM operations of low and high. In the fundamental form conventional engine’s single barring shaft-lock is replaced and given two profiles which are low-RPM fuel efficiency and stability and high-RPM output of power. The ECU controls the switching operation between the two lobes by taking in the engine temperature, oil pressure, engine speed, vehicle speed and throttle level. The program in the ECU switches from low to high lift cam lobes thus ensuring improved engine output.    The VTEC allows the same engine to have the best features whether it is on low speed or high speed so a car which is integrated with this system has the chance to give best fuel economy and performance.
