The newest Volkswagen Golf of the seventh-generation won the prestigious Car of the Year Award from Motor Trend. The Golf accompanied by its many brethren including the GTI hot hatch, E-Golf electric and the diesel engine TDI beat a horde of competition posed by  many compatriots including Audi, its corporate cousin.

Some of the other finalists competitors it beat included the 2015 Ford Mustang, Mercedes Benz S-Class, BMW 2- series, Honda Fit, Kia Sedona, Maserati Ghibli and Lexus RC. The VW with its seven generation Golf floored the judges on every count of want and requirement. Ed Loh, the Motor Trend Chief Editor said that starting with the Golf 1.8T with high values, Golf TDI with high MPG average, the e-Golf all- electric and the GTI hot hatch, you have a Golf model for every need of an individual or group.
