The newest Volkswagen Golf of the seventh-generation won the prestigious Car of the Year Award from Motor Trend. The Golf accompanied by its many brethren including the GTI hot hatch, E-Golf electric and the diesel engine TDI beat a horde of competition posed by many compatriots including Audi, its corporate cousin.
Some of the other finalists competitors it beat included the 2015 Ford Mustang, Mercedes Benz S-Class, BMW 2- series, Honda Fit, Kia Sedona, Maserati Ghibli and Lexus RC. The VW with its seven generation Golf floored the judges on every count of want and requirement. Ed Loh, the Motor Trend Chief Editor said that starting with the Golf 1.8T with high values, Golf TDI with high MPG average, the e-Golf all- electric and the GTI hot hatch, you have a Golf model for every need of an individual or group.
Similar to the SUV of the Year contest held in the previous month, which was won by the 2015 Honda CR-V, the present contest had a total of six categories consisting of 23 vehicles which Motor Trend rated. The eligibilities included the looks of the car, how efficient they are and their overall usability. In the final count there were ten finalists and Golf took the winner title when it was declared as the “Motor Trend Car of the Year.”
Michael Horn, Volkswagen President and CEO, was presented with the 2015 Motor Trend Car of the Year Award in a Thursday morning announcement. Horn in response that VW is immensely proud to accept the prestigious award and said that the award by Motor Trend is the recognition and testimony of the Golf Family’s versatility and the value and quality the models present to consumers in the compact hatchback segment.
