Another recall of Takata airbag and this time for 209K Chrysler, Dodge automobiles
Another recall of Takata airbag and this time for 209K Chrysler, Dodge automobiles

Airbag malfunction is a serious business as it significantly puts the safety of the passengers in jeopardy. Recently a spate of recalls involving the Takata airbags have affected a vast range of brands though not many fatal injuries have been reported so far.

One of the affected automaker Chrysler is expanding the range of its recall for the passenger side Takata airbag and has included as many as 139, 115 vehicles additionally making it a total of 208, 783 vehicles that require the offending parts to be reinstalled.

The most recent operation involves a bevy of vehicles having the passenger side inflators issue and they include 2003-2005 Dodge Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500, 2005 Dakota pickup and  2004-2005 Durango. Further the Dodge Magnum 2005 and Chrysler 300 of 2005, SRT8 and 300C. The recall will be restricted to vehicle purchase undertaken in the states of Alabama. Georgia, Hawaii, Florida, Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi, US Virgin Islands, Saipan, Puerto Rico, American Samoa and Guam territories. Owners are likely to be notified by the company by 8 February.

Chrysler expanded the replacement operation only in the last week and included the 2003 model year pickups numbering 149, 150 with passenger side inflator issue. The catch here is that parts for the recall are not same for all models. This particular recall according to the automaker is for the PSPI family of equipment compared to the last one with SPI. So far no reported injury or accident is heard by the company caused by the potentially dangerous airbags. After testing 600 of them in the laboratory no issues have been found with the inflators.

In spite of coming clean Chrysler under request of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is carrying out the repairs. Read the full story about the company initiative on the website.
