The Kia Rio has been updated with mild technology and styling changes. At the Chicago Auto Show, the Trail’ster of Kia hogged all the limelight and the refreshed 2016 Kia Rio hatchback and sedan were waiting for a limelight moment, but it never materialized.
The Rio was just mentioned while closing the show with remarks which left us asking, “what?” Rio has been updated for 2016, and it is here”. Well, it was there, and we managed to get all the changes made to the Rio sedan. The front and rear fascia have been revised, and the corporate grille mesh in a geometric pattern has been adopted from the Soul and Optima. Contemporary styling is seen in the headlamps as they have been moved inward. Satin bezels encircled projector lenses in the new fog lights. Horizontal style lines decorate the lower valance.
The freshly designed tail lamps have been moved to the farthest edge of the vehicle in the new refresh. New horizontal lines found elsewhere reflect the ones that are found in the front. The 2016 Kia Rio has been given two color options namely Urban Blue and Digital Yellow. Some trim bits in the interior have been changed. High-density foam has been used to fortify the A and B Pillars in the Kia to lessen NVH levels.
Speed has never been the hallmark of Rio and in the refresh it does not get much help in this regard. A naturally aspirated 1.6L 4-cylinder powers this hatchback and it produces 138hp to support like before. The sedan gets 123 lb-ft of torque which is delivered to front wheels with the help of 6-speed manual transmission or 6-speed automatic. The manual is not available to the hatchback, unfortunately. LX, EX, and SX are the three trim levels offered to the Kia Rio 2016.
