In the middle of May at a corporate VW Group event in Worthersee Volkswagen will show a Golf GTI concept that will later become a serial car.
Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, the head of Research and Development of Volkswagen Company, told the reporters of the British Car Magazine about some of the VW plans including this concept. That’s how the information about the new Golf GTI concept and its Wörthersee debut was revealed. The important thing about this concept is that it will become a serial car.
So what is this Golf GTI all about? Mr. Hackenberg assured the Car Magazine reporters that this will not be a show car similar to a crazy Golf GTI W12 650 Concept.
That concept of Golf’s fifth generation equipped with 12-cylinder 6.0 liter bi-turbo Bentley engine with 650 hp of capacity was shown in 2007. VW’s top manager made it clear that future prototype will be later produced as a serial car, and consequently will look and feel very “normal”.
According to the Car Magazine, Volkswagen is planning to present a Golf GTI Edition 40 dedicated to the 40-year anniversary of this model. This sounds like the Golf GTI Edition 30/35.
Ulrich Hackenberg also drew media’s attention to the fact that the optional electronically-controlled differential available for the performance package of Golf GTI is limited with only 250 hp of capacity. In other words, we will not see the front wheel version of this car with a capacity more than 250 hp. Is it a good or bad thing is still unknown.
Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg has also stated that he’s fond of the idea of building a carbon fiber roof that will be able to save from 8 to 9 kilos. Will such roof be the one installed on the new concept? Whatever the roof of the new prototype is based on, Golf GTI will still be lighter than its younger brother, the Volkswagen Golf GTI W12 650 Concept. The first real pictures of the car will be available quite soon, so every question you ask yourself about this car will be answered. And while you wait for its debut, there are better things to do.
