The Press Service of the BMW has declassified official information about the new BMW X5. The exterior design of the third generation of the iconic Bavarian crossover was not changed that much. However, the design the car with the F15 factory index may even be called revolutionary. Some particular elements performed in the style of the new third series, as well as the overall shape of the SUV are stylistically closer to the \"younger\" X3 and X1. The model of the third generation is built with a new, much lighter BMW platform, than the ones used for the previous generations. This platform will also serve as basis for the next X6. As a result of this innovation, X5 of 2014 model year is 150 pounds lighter than its predecessor.
The engine options of the new SUV include improved version of engines used in the current generations of models. The base engine for the all-wheel xDrive 35i drive versions, as well as the rear-wheel sDrive 35i drive versions are presented with a 3.0 liter V6 with 300 hp of capacity.
Thanks to a significantly lighter weight of the car, it can accelerate up to 100 km/hour in 6.2 seconds. This is 0.2 seconds faster than the result of the previous generation. Also, all of the X5 modifications will be equipped with eight-speed automatic transmissions. The xDrive 50i version with petrol 4.4 liter V8 engine and 445 hp of capacity became faster too. It gains the 100 km/hour speed in 4.9 seconds instead of the previous 5.3 seconds.
Diesel versions will also be available along with great salon modification options and latest technical option packages. The most awaited versions are, of course, the electric M-series. The official world premiere of the third generation of BMW X5 will take place in Frankfurt’s Auto Show in September. The sales are already planned to start in October. It’s interesting that the first X5 appeared in the Company’s line in 1999 and instantly became a global bestseller. Almost 1.3 million of copies of the first and second generations of this model were sold all over the world.
